The observatory is located on the border of the Sierras de Tejeda national park at an altitude of 800m above sea level.
The commune forbids the construction of new houses and cares for the preservation of the original agricultural character of the area, so there is no risk that large hotels or supermarkets will be built nearby.
The plot has an area of 3.5 ha and is mainly covered with olive groves.
